THE BRIEF

Supercell’s Brawl Stars takes place in an abandoned theme park: Starr Park. For SDCC they wanted to turn it into a physical theme park guests could experience, not just a photo opportunity.

THE INSIGHT

The live layer elevates a Comic Con offsite from photo opportunities to an experience. Characters and narrative will bring guests into the world of Starr Park.

THE BIG IDEA

Experience the chaotic mandatory fun of Starr Park, before the gems drive you mad.

THE EXPERIENCE

Spike, the living cactus Brawler, roamed the San Diego boardwalk before guests reached the activation – extending the world beyond the venue perimeter and creating an organic content moment.

Astra, your aggressively cheerful, deeply unsettling tour guide greeted guests on arrival, establishing the Starr Park fiction from the first moment and led you aboard the Starr Rail.

A custom dark ride transported guests into the park, hosted by Fun Enforcer Stella. With a planned stop in Frontier World to meet Colt and Shelly, the ride is suddenly hijacked by Spike who activates the experimental hyperdrive. The ride crashes in Mike’s Mine, scattering Gems around the Park. The train comes to a creaking stop at the centre of Starr Park.

Guests step into the sun soaked cartoon world of Starr Park. They are greeted by Fun Enforcers Emery and Dora, a straight man and goofy double act, who explain they must collect as many Gems scattered around the Park as possible. They can collect Gems by winning games against the other Fun Enforcers. Or else.

Guests test their strength with Frank’s Hammer at Haunted Haven, trigger an explosion with a plunger at Mike’s Mine and toss rings at Frontier World. You can also stop to spin the Wheel of Snacks to get a grenade shaped muffin from Piper’s Pies
Once guests have collected enough Gems, they exit via a gift shop and get bespoke Brawl Stars merch included character themed Floafers.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS

“The experiential storytelling and live layer that Studio Secret Cinema devised and brought to life turned our Comic Con activation into a truly immersive experience that transported Brawl Stars fans into Starr Park.”
Ashley Wagner, Head of Live Experiences, Supercell

“I really appreciate not only the expertise you brought to the project, but also your positive attitudes and get it done mentality. The event would not have been nearly as successful without Secret Cinema’s contribution.”
Seth Bardacke, President, GDX
